Gateway is excited to be supporting youth in care, ages 15 to 24, who live with disabilities, to achieve success with meaningful, paid employment.
We proudly announced our Youth in Care employment pilot in the fall of 2015 to assist young people who are fully supported by the Ministry of Human Services and who do not have access to a family network. We are excited to be working with this population.
We know young people, especially those with barriers, can face more challenges finding employment. Lack of experience can make it tough for them to get a foot in the door. If they do, they are often the first to be let go during an economic downturn.
Finding meaningful work as a young person boosts the likelihood of lifelong employment, lowers the risk of poverty, and lowers the risk of violence and juvenile offences. The sooner a young person is employed, the more positive the outlook he or she faces on a future employment path, and in other areas of their lives.
Gateway uses more engaging, creative, and wholistic methods to find meaningful employment opportunities. We are looking forward to continued success with the young job seekers we support.
